Walk MS 2016 - Tallahassee

This year's walk has been a blast to plan. From the shirt design to the tent design. We're enjoying ourselves. My Pacman Theme, "Chomping Away AT MS" won use Best Team Shirt. AND, we raised enough money to become a High Roller!

An exacerbation

That's what they call it. When a problem occurs. That's what's happening now. I'm having an exacerbation. My left foot is feeling numb. Losing sensation. So, we treat it. With steroids. I'll be heading to the Centra State Hospital for around of steroids. I'll be monitored to ensure none of my 'levels' change.

From April 27 - April 29, I got to wear this fancy port/arm piece and receive a steroid infusion for a few hours a day.

It wasn't bad. I came, I saw, I conquered.

Look Into My Eyes

Walk MS 2015 - Tallahassee

I've decided to participate in the Walk MS in Tallahassee. I rallied the troops. Got my family together to raise funds and walk with me. The Walk MS team hosts contests for things like, "Best Shirt", "Best Tent" "Most Money Raised" "Rookie of the Year" and so on... I was on a mission to win. And we did that.

I designed a shirt that wow'ed the crowd. So much so, other people wanted to purchase one. Thanks to Kenny T's for bringing my shirt to life. All in all, I enjoyed myself.

I wanted to have an 80's themed tent, which came together perfectly. The shirt design was most fun. We won Best Team Tent! High Roller!

#TeamTasha #OnMyNerves is ready for next year.

I Like This Place

I've dealt with neurological 'issues' since I was a teen. I've had multiple Neurologist, from Tallahassee to Baton Rouge and now to New Jersey. Now I have the pleasure of visiting the Multiple Sclerosis Center at the Centra State Hospital. I think i'm going to like it here. My neurologist is Dr. Amos Katz.

We do physical tests like walking, hand/eye coordination, strength checks. Good things to track to see if i'm getting better or worse.

Disease Modifying Drugs

I'm beginning my new Multiple Sclerosis medication, Gilenya. My drug of choice. It's a daily pill that i'll have to take (til forever). I opted to take this one instead of giving my shot, regularly.

Gilenya® is a new class of medication called a sphingosine 1-phosphate receptor modulator, which is thought to act by retaining certain white blood cells (lymphocytes) in the lymph nodes, thereby preventing those cells from crossing the blood-brain barrier into the central nervous system (CNS). Preventing the entry of these cells into the CNS reduces inflammatory damage to nerve cells.
Gilenya was approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for treatment of relapsing forms of multiple sclerosis (MS), to include clinically isolated syndrome, relapsing-remitting disease, and active secondary progressive disease, in patients 10 years of age and older.

The first time I take it, I had to be observed for 6-8 hours to ensure my heart rate handles the medication. Here's to a new start!!
